YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A SCIENTIST TO JUDGE ONE.

SINA is looking for volunteers to be a judge at this year’s Hartford Public Schools’ First Annual Citywide S.T.E.M. Expo. The time commitment will run from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm (with the first half hour being a training session on reviewing the rubric). Lunch will be provided. If you are interested, fill out a Judge Volunteer Information Form; forms are due by February 28, 2013.

This year’s Science Fair will be a S.T.E.M. Expo with four different categories:  Invention, Filming, Gaming & Apps and Traditional. Choose a category that you are interested in judging and become a part of this amazing event. For more information visit the Hartford Public Schools S.T.E.M. Inventions:
Students will challenge themselves by taking the initiative to create new products and/or services that will improve citizens’ lives. Judges will judge novel inventions for originality, attention to details, presentation, purpose, practicality and utility; it must solve a real problem. Filming:
This year’s topic in Filming will be BULLYING AWARENESS. Judges will be asked to judge an original film produce by students. Judges will focus on the Bullying Awareness Message, Technical & Visual Display (such as lighting, use of text, voice, props and costumes) and Acting. Each film will be approximately 2 minutes long. Gaming & Apps:
The Gaming and Apps category are for students interested in making fun computer games and Apps. Judges will critic the games/apps for originality, attention to details, presentation, and utility; players must have played it while learning math, science, engineering, or literacy skills. Traditional:
The Traditional Science Fair category follows the Scientific Process, where student state the purpose of their project, form a hypothesis and follow the Scientific Process to experiment (prove/disprove) their hypothesis.
